Grand Line Vine Editor Application

Jul. 13th, 2007 | 12:02 pm

The Grand Line Vine is looking for editors!

We're looking for editors who can take a day or two every week to compile the newsletter. Editors compile the newsletter by visiting a list of watched sites, tagging the news for characters/rating/spoilers, and putting all the news for that day in a standard template. This takes anywhere between half an hour to two hours, although the latter is rare.

The newsletter is currently published in the morning (Eastern Time), but that will likely be changed to the evening to fit editors' schedules better.

Requirements:

1) Editors should have reliable control of their Internet access. If access can be taken away by parents, guardians, etc. so that you cannot compile the newsletter, notify the other editors in a timely matter, or respond quickly to other editors, you should not apply.

2) Editors should list all news items that are relevant to One Piece fandom, regardless of bias or preference.

3) Editors should be reliable. They should try to never miss issues and should always notify the other editors when they know they'll be missing an issue.

4) Editors should be familiar with One Piece canon so that they know how to list all the news items. Being completely caught up on the manga is a plus. If you're not caught up, you will be exposed to spoilers, so if you prefer not to be spoiled, this might not be the job for you!

Please note that editing the newsletter will likely involve exposure to spoilers and fanworks that don't suit your taste; NC-17 images and stories; tedious days with single fans posting dozens of fanworks; and dealing politely with people whose work you may have mislisted, who misunderstood the newsletter policies, or who have other questions or concerns. Even if you find some of these fanworks offensive or some of these people rude, you would still have to list everything fairly and be polite at all times, so you should probably have a tough skin and plenty of patience.

Benefits: Fame! Fortune! A warm fuzzy glow!

If you meet these requirements, please fill out the application below and send it to grand.line.vine@gmail.com and you should receive a response in a few days =D

Experiments in LJ-Cut Policy

Aug. 4th, 2006 | 12:42 pm

Updated 18-08-2006

It has been brought to our attention via the suggestions post that the [info]grand_line_vine newsletter is rather long, even though we cut after the first 15 items.

Well, we're going to try some things to help alleviate that. This week we are cutting after the first 10 items, which reduces the length by 20 lines. That's a goodly bit.

Next week we will have a poll asking our readers how they feel about 15-cut, 10-cut, or whole-cut, which is also under consideration.

For now, please bear with us. We will post more information, ideas, and discussion here, and next week y'all get to yell at us via poll. Thanks for sticking with us this far!

Update: Okay! Now what the editors' crazy lives have actually settled down, we will have the poll. For now, we will just ask you the questions, and then once we have collected your opinions, unsullied by our ditherings, we will explain our side of it and talk about the results.

The poll itself will be hosted in one of the editors' journals. Since the editor in chief's internet decided to DIE today, the poll is not yet available, but it should be in a couple of hours.

We're sorry for the inconvenience and hope you join us in shaping our policies for future issues!

Update Mach II: The poll is up! Please vote!

Fandom Recs: Art

Jul. 28th, 2006 | 01:23 pm

This is the art fandom rec post for the [info]grand_line_vine One Piece newsletter.

Please read the GLV FAQ if you are not familiar with the newsletter.

Use this post to recommend stories you really liked so it can be featured in [info]grand_line_vine. If any piece of art or fic gets 3 recs, it will be included in the "Fandom Recommends" section.

Please read the RECCING POLICY.

Stories with Votes )

Reccing Procedure

Editors of [info]grand_line_vine may not do fandom recs. We have our own sandbox to play in. Editors may not rec themselves, but they can be recced in fandom recs. You may not rec your own stuff. To discourage sockpuppetry, we require that recs come with the following:

You may not rec one fanart more than once.

You may rec as many different pieces of art as you want.

You may rec the work of [info]grand_line_vine editors.

Once something has been recced, it goes in the archives and will not be recced again. Come on people, keep writing the good stuff!

With each rec, please include the following:

Title:
Author:
Map: For when no direct link is available. See our indirect linking policy for explanation and Editor's Choice archives for examples.
Characters/Pairing:
Rating:
Spoilers:
Rec Blurb: This describes why this particular piece is worth reccing and appears in the Fandom Recommends archives but not the newsletter itself. See the Editor's Choice archives for examples.

Once a fic or piece of art has collected three valid recs, we will include it in the next issue of [info]grand_line_vine, post the recs to the relevant Fandom Recommends archive, and then leave a comment on the recced work congratulating them on being recced and linking back to the issue and the archive. We'll also include a link to that comment in the archive so people can go see what we said and hopefully leave a comment themselves.

Comments are screened for your privacy.
